585

585 Majolika-Teller aus der Werkstatt des Carlantonio Grue (1655 Castelli - 1723) Durchmesser: 29 cm. Höhe: 5,3 cm. Castelli, erste Hälfte 18. Jahrhundert. Christie's, "Important Italian Maiolica. From The Arthus M. Sackler Collections", New York, 1993, Lot 53. Zwei Teller mit dem gleichen Wappen, vgl. Elena Iva - no va, Maria Selene Sconci, "Le Maioliche di Castelli. (9300051) Maiolica dish from the workshop of Carlantonio Grue (1655 Castelli - 1723) Diameter: 29 cm. Height: 5.3 cm. Castelli, first half of the 18th century. Large plate with broad border. The border decorated with acanthus ornament and putti as well as a foliage mask at centre bottom and chivalric arms with three stars and a horizontal crescent moon at centre top. The centre with Istoriato painting depicts Venus ten - derly stroking the head of a tired-looking Vulcan. Two cupids alongside Vulcan, one supports him, the other points at him. Painted in yellow, green, black on a white ground. Good condition. Repaired. Notes: the coat of arms shows similarities with that of the Lunetti family from Berga mo or the Amrhyn, Sannini & Sannini (di Pescia) families from Florence or alter - natively the arms of the Alinei family. Literature: For a plate with the same central motif from this workshop, see Christie's, Important Italian Maiolica. From The Arthus M. Sackler Collections, New York, 1993, Lot 53. Two dishes with the same arms, see Elena Ivanova, Maria Selene Sconci, Le Maioliche di Castelli. Capo - lavori d'Abruzzo dalle collezioni dell'Eremitage, 2007, pp. 91 - 93, nos. 35 and 36. The catalogue attributes the work to Candeloro Cappelletti (1689 - 1772), an apprentice and nephew of Carlantonio Grue. The present dish seems therefore to be part of a dinner service of which two dishes have survived at the Hermitage in St Petersburg. € 25.000 - € 30.000 124 For around 6,000 additional detailed images: www.hampel-auction.com
