ALVISE LUIGI VIVARINI, CA. 1445 VENICE OR MURANO – CA. 1505 MADONNA AND CHILD Tempera and oil on panel. Parquetted. 67 x 51 cm. Accompanied by an expert’s report by Mauro U. Lucco, Bazzano, dated 15 October 2015 as well as detailed report with elaborate account of image comparisons is enclosed. This painting can undoubtedly be considered as an important example of a devotional Madonna picture of the Italian Renaissance in general. The painting not only stands out due to its creator Alvise Vivarini, a famous and high-ranking exponent of Venetian art and celebrated during his lifetime, but also due to its aesthetic quality. The painting is of distinct provenance. On aedicule frame on the reverse: Collection label “Collectie Goudstikker / Amsterdam Heerensgracht, No. (handwritten)”1295”)”. Furthermore: printed label “Stichting Nederlandsch Kunstbezit” with inventory no. 47. Label “Dienst voor’s Rijks Verspreide Kunstvoorwerken S’Gravenhage” inventory no. 47. Provenance: The painting originates from the famous Parisian Mori Collection, once jointly owned by Jacques Goudstikker, Amsterdam and partly by Rathgeber, Berlin. The painting was seized by the occupying Nazi authorities in June 1940 and restored by the allies in 1945 consigning it to the patronage of the Dutch government. The painting was restored to its owner, the heiress of Jacques Goudstikker, Marei von Saher New York, N.Y, in February 2006. Literature: Catalogue de la Collection Goudstikker d’Amsterdam.
