less known than the

less known than the famous painters Jean-Honoré Fragonard (1732-1806) or Jacques-Louis David (1748- 1825). In 1768 he was awarded the Prix de Rome, whereupon he was able to continue his further training at the workshop of Charles-Joseph Natoire (1700 – 1777). In 1775, while living in Italy, he was accepted into the French Academy in Rome until he eventually became the court painter of Louis XVI in 1790 and was appointed as professor at the Académie Royale. In 1787 he created history paintings for Louis XVI in col laboration with Jacques-Louis David. The paintings were commissioned by the Comte d’Angiviller. These two works, David’s painting The Lictors Bring to Brutus the Bodies of his Sons and Vincent’s Zeuxis Choosing Models from the Beautiful Women of Croton are today held at the Louvre in Paris. The last one was sold in Sotheby’s sale 2007 for Euro 460.000, please compare the image shown. Provenance: Collection of the Count of Sellon, Geneva (old collection label no. 13 and no. 168 of the Sellon Collection). Bavarian private collection. Notes: Francois-André Vincent was chosen for highly important artistic tasks, even on the eve of the French Revolution in 1787 he was entrusted with the creation of a history painting for Louis XVI besides Jacques- Louis David (1748 – 1825). € 180.000 - € 200.000 Sistrix INFO | BIETEN Compare Vincent, Zenxis choosing Models from the beautiful women of Croton in the Louvre; sold in Sotheby‘s sale 2007 for Euro 460.000. tions.com 170 For around 6,500 additional detailed images: www.hampel-auctions.com

645 Jan Brueghel d. J. 1601 – 1678 und Jan van Balen, 1611 – 1654, zug. DER KINDERREIGEN Öl auf Kupferplatte, teilparkettiert. 29,5 x 36 cm. In dekorativem Prunkrahmen. (1190209) (18) Jan Brueghel the Younger, 1601 – 1678 and Jan van Balen, 1611 – 1654, attributed THE CHILDREN’S ROUNDEL Oil on copper, partially parquetted. 29.5 x 36 cm. In magnificent decorative frame. The subject of the painting can also be found in a work created by Hans Rottenhammer the Elder (1564 – 1625) and Jan Brueghel the Elder created around 1600 and held at the Alte Pinakothek in Munich. The painting on offer for sale in this lot clearly shows the collaboration of Jan Brueghel the Elder and Hendrik van Balen the Elder. Brueghel also worked with many other artists of his time; there is, for example, also a Children’s Roundel and the Bath of Venus, in which the landscape was created by Jan van Brueghel. € 30.000 - € 40.000 Sistrix INFO | BIETEN All texts can be translated into your own language on our homepage via Google: www.hampel-auctions.com 171
